When I first discovered Star Trek and MAC Cosmetics were doing a collab collection for their 50th anniversary, I nearly cried tears of joy. The collection will feature 25 products inspired by the ladies of Star Trek, and will be available in stores September 1st through October 13th, 2016.
I have to admit... I haven't watched every single episode or film, but I have always admired the iconic makeup looks the original characters rocked, and the classic winged liner Uhura is so known for. And yes, I do have a major crush on both Chris Pine and Zoe Saldana equally, and cannot wait for the new film,
Star Trek Beyond, coming out this summer.
+ Trip The Light Fantastic Powder in Luna Luster
This pressed highlighting powder is one of the more buildable highlighters I have worked with. With soft pinks, subtle corals, and glittering blush flakes, this powder swipes on skin quite naturally, leaving a healthy glow on the highs of the cheekbones. When used with a damp brush or beauty blender, the application can be a touch heavier, but never looks on the verge of being too rosy. Gorgeous.
+ Frost Lipstick in LLAP (Live Long And Prosper)
As soon as I swiped this sweet-smelling golden hue on my lips, I fell madly in love. This rose-gold frost has major shine and goes on like a dream, leaving my lips quite naturally nude and shimmering with the first layer, and building to a more dramatic look as I continued to layer. Normally, I have trouble finding a longwear nude, but this one not only stays put, but leaves my lips super hydrated. Of all the products from the collection, this has to be one of my favorites. Trust me. You need this unique shade in your life.
+ Lipglass in Khaaannnn!
First of all, this lipglass name is incredible. Secondly, like all of the products I have tried thus far, this hot fuschia shade has left me pleasantly surprised. At first, I thought this shade would be a bit too, well, pink. The color's opacity, I have discovered, depends a whole lot on the way in which you apply the gloss. When gliding on the product, I noticed a sheer application of a softer rose shade that would be perfect for layer onto your fave nude matte lipstick. When dabbed on a bit thicker, however, I was able to achieve a shade closer to the bottle. This lipglass is actually quite natural and lends itself well to a sun-kissed, sunset-inspired makeup look.
+ Pressed Pigment Eye Shadow in Midnight and To Boldly Go
Of all the different products, Midnight is most different in that it's a cool-toned, darker, and more "unnatural" color. This high-shine navy goes on nearly black with major turquoise sparkle in the light. It's perfect for a nighttime smoky eye, and can be layered in order to bring on a more ocean-inspired look. The shade To Boldly Go, on the other hand, is a warmer copper shade with the same shine and intensity. This hue brings sunshine to the lids, and pairs beautifully with browns and champagnes. With both shadows, blending is effortless, making these two simply to die for.
+ Fluidline Pen in On The Hunt
Eyeliners tend to be a bit of a personal makeup product, depending on if you're a pencil person, a pen lover, or a fan of the brush. I, myself, am generally into pens because of how easy it is to apply, which made me incredibly excited to see it in this collection. This liquid liner features a felt tip which ensures precision, drying a true black with a patent finish. This liner goes on like velvet, but definitely needs a moment to dry after each stroke. If the wing is still wet, you can end up moving around the product instead of layering it, leaving unwanted streaks. This is quite normal with a lot of liquid liners, however, and can be easily avoided when simply taking your time with your look. The final look? Uhura approved!
+ Nail Lacquer in Holla-Deck
I am not really a gold person (I'm more into silver), but WOW. If you want your fingers to look as if they have been decadently dipped in glittering liquid gold, then this is the polish you have been dreaming of. What I love about this shade is that it is a true gold with no yellowy or brassy tints. With just one layer, the color is nearly opaque with hardly any natural nail poking through. Another thin layer, and it's simply flawless. I'm obsessed. Truly. I think this polish may have me switching to team gold for the summer.
Mark the release date on your calendar, ladies and gents, because this range slays.
