Dark Angels: the cure for your skin's little demons

After a long week of couch-surfing and camping at Woodstock's Mysteryland music festival, my skin is seriously angry with me... And though I wanted the fantasy of Mysteryland to last forever, I am happy to be back with my ride or die face and body exfoliator...

When I first stumbled upon Lush's Dark Angels, I was a bit worried. My skin tends to be on the sensitive side, and many exfoliators end up being way too harsh and abrasive for me. However, after exploring all that Lush has to offer and talking over my options with the (always) incredibly helpful and passionate staff, I decided I would give it a go. Not to mention, the poet in me loved the name "Dark Angels."

Usually, I tend to use this exfoliator in the shower since it can be a bit messy... I take a a pea-sized bit into my palm (seriously, that's all you need), and start breaking down the product with some water. Then exfoliate away wherever you need - I love that I can replace my less-safe body exfoliators with this one, leaving me with silky smooth skin every time.

Here are some things you should know about this exfoliator:

+ Like I said, this stuff can be messy, so make sure you rinse thoroughly. To my surprise, I have looked in the mirror after showering and noticed staining from the dark charcoal on my skin. After that, I got in the habit of using a simple, everyday cleanser after exfoliating to make sure I rid my skin of the stains. (That being said, since these products are handmade, I may have just gotten a charcoal-heavy batch. Even without the extra cleansing, I often don't see staining). I never had an issue again!

+ CHARCOAL IS EVERYTHING. The main ingredient in this product is powdered charcoal which acts like a magnet, drawing out impurities and hard-to-reach blackheads like you wouldn't believe.

+ Though charcoal can often be abrasive to skin, the sweet-smelling avocado, sandalwood, and rosewood oils leave skin ultra-hydrated. The ingredients truly balance eachother out beautifully.

If you all haven't experienced all that is LUSH yet, here are a few things you should know about them...

+ Always cruelty free! 100% vegetarian!

+ Their products are handmade with fresh ingredients, which means that, just like food, a lot of their stuff has an expiration date.

+ Don't be shy in a Lush store! You can virtually try every single product right then and there, and can even take samples home with you. I have only had positive experiences with their staff - they never fail to be super personable and helpful. You can just feel the genuine love and belief in Lush's "mission" when you speak with them.
